The Department of Design at IIT Guwahati is a young and dynamic centre for design education. Eventually, a place was needed for the department to showcase it's achievements, its students, and its philosophy online. The then present website of the department was a very poor one. This redesign aimed at visually repositioning the website - and the department - as a dynamic, exciting and unique knowledge center.

Approach. This project involved an end-to-end process with strategic design and information architecture, web-identity creation, content creation, web development and deployment. Therefore, strategic, branding, creative and technical objectives of the website were defined in the process.
The four main user groups considered were:
1. Prospective students
2. Prospective post-graduate researchers
3. Prospective employers for graduating students
4. Other academic entities

Based on unique informational needs identified for each of these groups, the sitemap was created using a card sort. With this architecture in place, various concepts were created for the page structure and navigation. Next, the visual style was explored that represented the image that the department wished to potray, and a suitable identity was put into place. Lastly, content was created for the various sections, and the website was coded in CSS and deployed on the institute server.
